The purpose of this session is to explore a range of tools, apps, and strategies that can be effectively implemented by both teachers and students to support digital citizenship and establish boundaries in the digital space. Often, the concepts of creating digital boundaries and utilizing educational technology are perceived as mutually exclusive. In this session, the presenter will share anecdotal experiences demonstrating how establishing boundaries in the digital space can lead to positive outcomes for both educators and learners. The core idea behind "Digital Boundaries that Enhance Digital Learning" is to empower teachers and students to leverage technology in a way that aligns with their individual needs and schedules, ultimately enhancing the learning experience. The powerful devices we use, such as iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks, have the potential to either foster community and wellbeing or contribute to isolation and challenge mental health. As educators, we have the opportunity to model healthy digital citizenship for our students. By setting boundaries around aspects of "screen time" that can negatively impact health and happiness, we can harness the life-changing capabilities of these devices to enhance educational outcomes.
The session highlights the use of iPads as a versatile tool to foster transdisciplinary education while supporting healthy digital habits. Transdisciplinary learning involves integrating knowledge and approaches from multiple disciplines to address complex, real-world challenges. With iPads, students can access a wide range of apps and resources that promote collaboration between subjects such as science, art, technology, and more. For example, students might use design apps to explore artistic principles while applying mathematical concepts or research tools to investigate scientific problems through a historical lens. iPads enable personalized learning experiences, allowing students to explore subjects in ways that resonate with their interests and skills. They can engage with interactive simulations, digital textbooks, and multimedia content that bridge disciplinary gaps and encourage creative problem-solving. In terms of digital wellbeing, iPads offer tools to manage screen time, promote mindfulness, and foster Digital Citizenship skills in students. By using iPads to promote transdisciplinary learning and digital wellbeing, educators can create a balanced, innovative learning ecosystem that equips students with both knowledge and the skills to navigate the digital world in a responsible manner.

This workshop will explore how technology can be leveraged to track, assess, and support the wellbeing of students in a primary school setting. At the core of our approach is the integration of various data points, including attendance records, daily wellbeing check-ins, pastoral review meetings, and nurse visit logs. Together, these elements provide a holistic view of each student's physical, emotional, and mental health. We will delve into how daily wellbeing check-ins allow students to self-report their emotions, and how these insights help staff to identify patterns and potential areas of concern. By combining these findings with attendance data and pastoral reviews, schools can proactively identify students who may need additional support. Additionally, we’ll examine the importance of teaching emotional literacy, equipping students with the skills to better understand and communicate their feelings. The session will provide practical insights into the tools used, the workflow of collecting and analysing data, and how timely interventions can be planned to ensure students thrive both academically and emotionally.
