A fun way to introduce students to AI image generators is to have them visualise their favourite song’s lyrics. By closely examining the song's themes and messages, students can learn to prompt and refine AI tools to create artwork that reflects their interpretation of the music. This process not only helps students understand how media can convey meaning but also empowers them to express their own ideas creatively through their own art. This workshop will guide teachers on how to incorporate AI image generators into their classrooms to enhance student creativity and understanding of media. Participants will learn how to analyse song lyrics, prompt AI tools effectively, and refine generated images to create thematic representations of their chosen songs. Application of this concept can extend to writing, reading, social studies, units of inquiry, and more.

Suddenly every student in the class can produce a high quality political cartoon or a propaganda poster. Could we spend less time developing the content in lectures and more time making it interactive? Of course, if we outsource the slide creation to genAI. This workshop will highlight some of the ideas I've found useful and help teachers stay away from some of the mistakes I've made.
